It's no secret that I am a huge Leigh Bardugo fan. I devour everything she writes (maybe with a few long breaks in between series) and this was no different. I LOVE this world and the characters she's created. I read both King of Scars and Rule of Worlds in about a week which is fast for me. I talked to the book, I squealed, I stressed, I laughed, I yelled "I KNOW WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN!" and I paced my apartment. I didn't want it to end and now I'm sad that it has. I NEED MORE. Please Leigh.

Leigh Bardugo does it again, this time bursting her way into the "adult" Fantasy genre. Ninth House slowly unwinds, much like the snake on it's cover, revealing mystery after mystery, keeping the reader guessing as to what new horror or setback will come along the next curve. A truly enjoyable and engrossing read from beginning to end. If you're like me, you'll find yourself losing hours curled up in a chair with Ninth House just inches from your face. There's so much to love about this book. I can't seem to pick just one thing to gush about. I loved all the characters ("good" and bad), the world she created within Yale, the mysteries she unravels, and this new set of Houses we'll all want to be "sorted" into.

This book is dark and full of rage and told in a way that is original and devastating. The dual perspectives, separated by time, is the perfect set-up for a fast-paced, heart-pounding thriller. I would consider this a cross-over title and sell this to anyone, mostly adults, who are fans of true-crime podcasts. Also, I listened to the audio version via Libro.fm. The experience of an audio book with a large cast was great. Highly recommend you listen to this book. Courtney Summers may have just "stumbled" upon a new way of mixing medias.

I love Stacey Lee and all she does. There. I've said it. And I've probably said it in every single one of my reviews for her books. She has an amazing talent of capturing a feeling and presenting complex scenarios, like classism and racism, and complicated emotions, romantic and familial, to her readers in a thoughtful, careful, yet thorough way. On top of that, she has a knack for creating characters that seep into the heart and stick. I can't wait to put this into the hands of young readers who love the written word as much as Jo and "Miss Sweetie".

Naomi Novik has a gift for weaving stories of strong women together to create a beautiful, captivating, and meaningful piece of fiction. I loved Uprooted and absolutely love Spinning Silver. Perfect for fantasy lovers. I would even recommend it to teens.

Munmun By Jesse Andrews Cover Image
$12.99
Unavailable, Out of Stock, or Out of Print
ISBN: 9781419734786
Published: Amulet Paperbacks - April 9th, 2019

The "originality" of Munmun is OFF THE CHARTS! I loved this book. It is such a challenge to read, in the best way. The "intellectual depth" is perfect for the older teens and the adults. I'm not sure I would have picked up some of the social criticism as a young teen as I did now as an adult. Munmun is an amazing satirical look at society and how quickly things can go wrong when people choose to ignore issues and how injustices can pile up one after another until it's impossible to escape.

I read this almost entirely on a 5 hour plane ride. I really enjoyed it. It's a highly character driven story. Though Rosemary is slated as the main character, she's more of a window into the crew. Each character has their mini story line and plot that moves the story along to the final climax and resolution.
