Award-winning author Mary Gaitskill (The Mare, Bad Behavior) is best known for delivering powerful stories of dislocation, longing and desire with “such authority, such radar-perfect detail, that she is able to make even the most extreme situations seem real” (New York Times). Her latest is Somebody With a Little Hammer, a fascinating and fearless collection of insights on a wide variety of topics ranging from pop culture and politics to dating and rape debates.
Mary Gaitskill is the author of the story collections Bad Behavior, Because They Wanted To (nominated for the PEN/Faulkner Award), and Don’t Cry, and the novels The Mare, Veronica (nominated for the National Book Award) and Two Girls, Fat and Thin. She has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, and her stories and essays have appeared in the New Yorker, Harper’s, ArtForum and Esquire, among many other journals, as well as The Best American Short Stories (1993) and The O. Henry Prize Stories (1998). Her short story "Secretary" was made into a feature film of the same name.
