Poet, novelist, advice columnist and heroine to anyone with “issues,” Melissa Broder is author of the novel The Pisces and the poetry collection Last Sext, as well as the voice behind the viral Twitter account @sosadtoday and an essay collection based on the account. In her podcast Eating Alone in My Car, Broder rants and raves on poptarts, depression, the existential ambience of her 2005 Mercedes Benz, and so much more, all with the same lighthearted and sardonic tone. Whether considering her own mortality or her ability to handle cereal, Broder wields a dark, and vulnerable humor that is refreshingly honest and intentionally open about ongoing personal struggle. Her other writing includes the “So Sad Today” column for Vice, horoscopes for Lenny Letter, and the “Beauty and Death” column at Elle.com. She is the winner of a Pushcart Prize for Poetry.
