Discover the very best hidden corners of the West with two Californians who’ve explored the region from every angle: by foot, aircraft, and horseback. Futurist Paul Saffo and Alta Journal editor and publisher Will Hearst swap some of their favorite little-known locations—from New Mexico canyons to the Sierra Nevada—and reckon with the shrinking of the unexplored, untamed Wild West. Join us for this Alta Live as Saffo and Hearst reveal where to go, what to see, and what’s to come.

Paul Saffo is a noted futurist, a professor at Stanford University, and the chair of the future studies and forecasting track at Singularity University. He is also a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council and a fellow at the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. He doubles as an EMT and participates in search-and-rescue operations involving lost hikers and climbers.

Will Hearst is the editor and publisher of Alta Journal, which he founded in 2017. He is the board chair of Hearst Communications, one of the nation’s largest diversified media and information companies. Hearst is a grandson of company founder William Randolph Hearst. One of Books Inc.’s favorite aspects of being booksellers is getting the chance to welcome and host hundreds of authors a year, from house-hold names to local, debut authors and we are so excited to begin reintroducing the Bay Area with “The Experience You Can’t Download” in our stores with traditional author talks and booksignings. In addition to meet-and-greet author events and standard author talks, we are also continuting virtual author events.

Sales equate success, and as with in-store events, booksales made from an independent bookstore benefit the author, publisher, and lead to future event bookings. Please help us keep the Bay Area the wonderful literary hub that it is by supporting your local Books Inc.
