Alta Live @ 5: Happy Hour

Wednesday, May 26, at 5 p.m. Pacific time

California distilleries are shaking up the spirit industry with bold whiskeys, gins, and other liquors made from locally grown ingredients. Alta Live and a lineup of cocktail connoisseurs invite you to attend a virtual happy hour where you can sample the best of them. Join Alta Journal contributors Michael Bauer and Nicholas Mancall-Bitel and Rye on the Road’s Greg Lindgren as we mix, sip, and learn about some of the newest libations coming out of the Golden State. It’s Alta Live—with a twist!

This event will be streamed on Zoom and is free to the public.

You can take it a step further by ordering a special Alta Cocktail Kit. Rye on the Road will be providing a custom-bottled set of three mixed cocktails, each made with a California spirit brand we’ll be talking about during the event.

The drinks:

  • Alta Manhattan: Spirit Works whiskey, Oso de Oro vermouth, orange bitters.
  • Alta Brandy Old-Fashioned: Bertoux brandy, barspoon sugar, aromatic bitters.
  • Alta L.A. Negroni: Amass gin, Oso de Oro vermouth, Amaro Angeleno.

The cost: $50, including shipping. Bay Area orders will be hand-delivered.

Michael Bauer has been a food journalist for more than four decades. For 32 years, he was the food editor and restaurant critic for the San Francisco Chronicle. He left in 2018 and is now a contributing food editor at Alta.

One of Books Inc.’s favorite aspects of being booksellers is getting the chance to welcome and host hundreds of authors a year, from house-hold names to local, debut authors and we look forward to continuing to provide the Bay Area with “The Experience You Can’t Download” in our stores when we can assure authors and guests that it is safe to do so. In the meantime, we are working on an exciting list of virtual events for both adults and children and we look forward to exploring this new format with you.

Sales equate success, and as with in-store events, booksales made from an independent bookstore benefit the author, publisher, and lead to future event bookings. Please help us keep the Bay Area the wonderful literary hub that it is by supporting your local Books Inc.
