Can a mom forge a deeper connection with her autistic son — and a divided country — on a 15-day journey along Route 66? Alta Editor at Large Mary Melton did just that — and wrote about the experience for our Summer 2020 issue. Melton will join Alta Asks Live host Heather Scott Partington to discuss her family’s ambitious road trip, surprising stops along the West’s most iconic stretch of roadway, what to expect from a $58-a-night motel room, and so much more.

Mary Melton is an award-winning writer and editor who runs an independent editorial consulting practice. Formerly the editor-in-chief of Los Angeles magazine, she has worked with Majordomo Media, The AtlanticCalifornia Sunday, Netflix, and The New Yorker. She serves as Editorial Director at Godfrey Dadich Partners and as Editor-at-Large for Alta.

One of Books Inc.’s favorite aspects of being booksellers is getting the chance to welcome and host hundreds of authors a year, from house-hold names to local, debut authors and we look forward to continuing to provide the Bay Area with “The Experience You Can’t Download” in our stores when we can assure authors and guests that it is safe to do so. In the meantime, we are working on an exciting list of virtual events for both adults and children and we look forward to exploring this new format with you.

Sales equate success, and as with in-store events, booksales made from an independent bookstore benefit the author, publisher, and lead to future event bookings. Please help us keep the Bay Area the wonderful literary hub that it is by supporting your local Books Inc.
