Description

Crisp air and gray skies beckon a little girl to thoroughly investigate the outside world: chipmunks, squirrels, insects, and fallen leaves all hint that a change of season is coming. Young readers can explore the signs of autumn along with the adventurous child narrator in this charming conclusion to the series on the seasons.

About the Author

Wong Herbert Yee is the author and illustrator of Tracks in the Snow, Who Likes Rain, Fireman Small and Big Black Bear, among other books. Born in Detroit, Michigan, one of his favorite memories of childhood is of leaving the first tracks on fresh-fallen snow. He also remembers his first grade teacher tacking one of his drawings on the bulletin board—ever since then, he’s been an artist. He studied printmaking at Wayne State University. He lives with his wife and daughter in Troy, Michigan.

A CCBC Award Master List Selection

“Evocative figurative language is used effectively throughout. . . Recommended for elementary collections as a solid addition to the seasonal offerings or a helpful tool in exploring figurative language” —School Library Journal

“A sound conclusion to the series” —Kirkus Reviews

“Yee's soft, grainy pencil drawings and contemplative rhymes celebrate quiet moments of exploration and discovery” —Publishers Weekly

“As in the previous books, the Prismacolor pencil art is the main attraction. Yee's shading and color blending are meticulously done, and the illustrations vary among full-page, spot art, and everything in between, giving viewers lots to look at.” —The Horn Book

“The nicely textured, richly colored watercolor scenes sometimes fill a whole page but more typically appear as smaller, more intimate pictures. A fine read-aloud choice for the season.” —Booklist
