One of the first questions people ask me when they learn I’m a Children’s Book Buyer is do you really read all of the books you buy? Sadly the answer is NO. It’s impossible but I’m excited to introduce you to a group of people who give me a first look at everything being published each season, our publisher sales reps! I rely on them to help me discover debut gems, identify new trends and tell me what I should put on top of my never ending need to read pile. Each month a publisher rep will share one of their personal favorites with us. Happy Reading!

Readers, meet Tom!
Illustrator Dan Santat and author Minh Le have created a picture book with a theme that should appeal to many families, especially those who have a parent or grandparent who still use their native tongue as their primary language. Using very few words, DRAWN TOGETHER shows how a grandfather and his Americanized grandson learn how to bridge their vastly different experiences. At the grandfather's house, the two at first seem to have little in common. But just as all hope appears lost, the grandfather notices that he and his grandson share a love for drawing. From this point forward, DRAWN TOGETHER becomes a celebration of these two artists working together to find a new world that transcends the words that separate them.
About Tom: I have worked in the book business for the past 33 years (gulp!), and for the last 18 have been the local sales representative for Hachette Book Group. When I have free time, I love taking trips with my family, following my favorite baseball (Go Giants!) and soccer (Barcelona) teams, and having deep, philosophical conversations with our two cats.
