One of the first questions people ask me when they learn I’m a Children’s Book Buyer is do you really read all of the books you buy? Sadly the answer is NO. It’s impossible but I’m excited to introduce you to a group of people who give me a first look at everything being published each season, our publisher sales reps! I rely on them to help me discover debut gems, identify new trends and tell me what I should put on top of my never ending need to read pile. Each month a publisher rep will share one of their personal favorites with us. Happy Reading!

Reader, meet Andy!
About Andy: I have worked for a number of publishers, the last fifteen for Abrams Books. My favorite hobby is (no surprise) fly fishing.
As someone whose career began by working at the local library while still in high school, and who has worked in publishing for more than forty years, I have loved children’s books most of my life. I somehow got it into my head more than a decade ago that I was capable of writing my own children’s story that might someday be published. Amazingly that dream is coming true in 2018 with the publication of my book Down By the River (ages 4 and up). It’s about a boy, his mother, and his grandfather spending a day together sharing their favorite activity, fly fishing. The illustrations are by Oakland artist April Chu, and she has captured the spirit of the sport and the beauty of the locale even better than I dreamed she would. Her illustrations are amazing. Along with the story itself the book has four pages of illustrations of nearly eighty unique flies, as well as three pages of backmatter about the sport and conservation. The experience leading up to publication has been a thrill, which will only be topped by my book being available in stores. I hope everyone loves it.
