Kundera's classic novel explores the opposing ideas of love and lust, obligation and abandonment, delusion and reality, and more, during the onset of the repressive 1968 Prague Spring period. It's gracefully written, and is full of philosophical acuity and a subtle, intoxicating defiance. Be sure to check out the movie too, which is different, but just as good!

The beginning of an incredible story of female friendship. This is a book you can take your time with. I loved luxuriating in the prose - the descriptions of 1950s Italy and the detailed dynamic characters totally sucked me in. I could read about the lives of these two women forever.

A fantastic book that explores some of the cultural underpinnings of North America. It's insightful and digestible, and provides yet another helpful lens to understand our diverse society.

This novel is as unique and delightful as its protagonist who, against societal expectations, cares far more for her job at a convenience store than for the heteronormative ideals of marriage and family. I loved most her relationship with herself. A quick read and a joy!

A passionate and delicious novella, Esquivel writes into your heart with Mexican recipes used ti guide the chapters of the book. Many of the details are sensual, a whole new meaning is given to the cooking and preparing of food. Forbidden love has never tasted or smelled so good. * Don't read if you are hungry! *
