Julie Romeis Sanders
fell in love with reading while hiding under the covers with a book and
a flashlight. She rediscovered the wonders of children’s books in high
school, while working at an independent book and toy store. By 2001,
Julie found her dream job helping to launch the U.S. division of
Bloomsbury Children’s Books. There she edited books for all ages and
discovered authors such as Printz Honoree Rick Yancey and author of a
Caldecott Honor, Aaron Reynolds. In 2007 she took a turn for the west
coast and joined Chronicle Books to grow their fledgling fiction
program, create fabulous gift products, and develop unforgettable
picture books such as Caldecott Honor Book Flora and the Flamingo by
Molly Idle. Julie has also spent many years guiding future editors at
the Columbia Publishing Course and encouraging aspiring writers at SCBWI
conferences around the world. Now, as a freelance editor, Julie
continues to pursue her passion for working with authors, illustrators,
agents, and publishers on various editorial and consulting projects. She
is also delighted to have returned to her book-selling roots as a
children’s specialist at independent bookseller Books Inc.
