RANDAL DOANE shares his book Stealing All Transmissions: A Secret History of The Clash, which chronicles the inside story of the mutual love shared between The Clash and America. The book begins in 1970 and leads readers along to their September 1979 performance at the Palladium, in New York City, where bass guitarist Paul Simonon smashed his Fender guitar and created that ever-famous image from the punk scene.
