Staff Reviews

My Favorite novel for 2013!  Don Tillman’s project to find a wife is vastly complicated by his socially inept and scientifically motivated approach.  I read it in one long sitting.  It’s marvelous!

The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion is the funniest book to hit our shelves since we opened our doors in 2004.  What happens when a professor decides it's time to get married and is certain he can do the job in no time - even though he's never had a second date in his life? Trust us - you'll be laughing out loud or we guarantee your money back!

Don Tillman is a brilliant geneticist, but he has always been rather socially maladroit. Imagine his surprise when a friend tells him that he would make a wonderful husband. Intrigued, he starts The Wife Project and commences the search for the perfect spouse. While in the midst of his extremely precise hunt for a wife, Rosie Jarman blows into Don's life like a wild wind. Rosie is on a quest of her own -- The Father Project -- the search for her biological father. Rosie is the antithesis of Don's image of the perfect wife of his scientific calculations, but somehow he finds himself putting The Wife Project on the back burner to aid Rosie. Much ado about a comedy of errors ensues in this hilarious, quirky romance! -- Rachel King, Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza, Albany, NY

An international sensation, this hilarious, feel-good novel is narrated by an oddly charming and socially challenged genetics professor on an unusual quest: to find out if he is capable of true love.

Don Tillman, professor of genetics, has never been on a second date. He is a man who can count all his friends on the fingers of one hand, whose lifelong difficulty with social rituals has convinced him that he is simply not wired for romance. So when an acquaintance informs him that he would make a “wonderful” husband, his first reaction is shock. Yet he must concede to the statistical probability that there is someone for everyone, and he embarks upon The Wife Project. In the orderly, evidence-based manner with which he approaches all things, Don sets out to find the perfect partner. She will be punctual and logical—most definitely not a barmaid, a smoker, a drinker, or a late-arriver.

Yet Rosie Jarman is all these things. She is also beguiling, fiery, intelligent—and on a quest of her own. She is looking for her biological father, a search that a certain DNA expert might be able to help her with. Don's Wife Project takes a back burner to the Father Project and an unlikely relationship blooms, forcing the scientifically minded geneticist to confront the spontaneous whirlwind that is Rosie—and the realization that love is not always what looks good on paper.

The Rosie Project is a moving and hilarious novel for anyone who has ever tenaciously gone after life or love in the face of overwhelming challenges.

Praise for The Rosie Project…

"The Rosie Project is an upbeat, quirky, impertinent gem of a read. As the novel makes its logically irrefutable progression, readers will become enchanted by what may well be the worlde(TM)s first rigorously evidence-based romantic comedy."
-Chris Cleave, bestselling author of Little Bee and Gold

"This clever and joyful book charmed me from the first. Professor Tillman is an unlikely romantic hero but a brave, winning soul, and his quest to find a wife goes to show that rationality is no match for love."
-Maggie Shipstead, bestselling author of Seating Arrangements

"Graeme Simsion has created an unforgettable and charming character unique in fiction. Don Tillman is on a quirky, often hilarious, always sincere quest to logically discover what is ultimately illogicale"love. Written in a superbly pitch-perfect voice, The Rosie Project had me cheering for Don on every page. Ie(TM)m madly in love with this book! Trust me, you will be, too."
-Lisa Genova, bestselling author of Still Alice and Left Neglected

"With the demands of children and work, it's rare that I find myself so caught up in a novel that I literally cannot put it down -- not for food, nor for conversation, nor even for sleep. Charming and delightful,I was so enamored of The Rosie Project that I read it in a single, marathon sitting."
-Ayelet Waldman, bestselling author of Red Hook Road, Bad Mother and Love and Other Impossible Pursuits

"Although there are many laughs to be found in this marvelousnovel, The Rosie Project is a serious reflection on our need forcompanionship and identity. Don Tillman is as awkward and confusing a narrator as he is lovable and charming."
-John Boyne, bestselling author of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

"Charming, funny and heartwarming, a gem of a book."
-Marian Keyes, bestselling author of The Brightest Star in the Sky and This Charming Man

eoeA world so original, in a story so compelling, I defy you not to read through the night. Read this glorious novel now, in the moment, where it lives."
