Like Mandarin by Kirsten Hubbard

Out today is the debut novel from Kirsten Hubbard, LIKE MANDARIN. Set in small town Washokey, Wyoming, Like Mandarin stars Grace, an intelligent and highly introverted high schooler who's been skipped up a year, making her first year of high school her sophomore year. As if that didn't make her enough of an outsider, she's also so quiet, almost nobody notices she's there. Except, it turns out, Mandarin Ramey. Mandarin is everything Grace wishes she could be; reckless, glamourous and sexy. But as her friendship with Mandarin escalates at an alarming pace, Grace starts to learn that Mandarin is perhaps not as care-free as she likes to come across.

Review of VIRALS by Guest Blogger Clare, Age 12

Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

Students are inundated with WWII stories about the Holocaust, and for good reason. But it was a pleasure to find a take on WWII we so rarely hear. Written from the perspective of a Lithuanian refugee whose family is exiled to Siberia, Between Shades of Gray is a masterpiece of teen war fiction. Sepetys's narrative is as elegant as it is unflinching, and is bound to move any reader to tears. Though it is primarily a work of fiction, Sepetys based many of the scenes from interviews with survivors, making the atrocities depicted within all the more harrowing to behold. Perhaps Sepetys's most impressive accomplishment is that, despite the disturbing subject matter, she has wrought a book that is as engaging and focused on love and empathy as it is painfully honest.

Valentines' Day Bash Recap!

So pictures are still to come, but in the meantime we have some links to AMAZING bloggers that attended this event. Fans were out in force, and we were pleased to keep pulling more and more chairs out for attendees.

 Three ladies from Eve's Fan Garden (in Sacramento) came out, and had baked a special cupcake for each one of the authors that reflected their respective book covers! They looked adorable (and delicious) and totally professionally made. They posted their own recap on their website. You can find reviews, recaps of other events, author interviews and more from these very prolific ladies!

We also got to meet Jessica, who runs the awesome teen blog, Chick Lit Teens. Jessica organizes contests, giveaways, writes reviews and even conducts interviews. You can follow her on Twitter too @ChickLitTeens
