Books Inc. is Berkeley Bound
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 5, 2009
Contact: Margie Scott Tucker, 415-643-3400 Ext 11
Books Inc. is Berkeley Bound
San Francisco, CA: Books Inc., the west’s oldest independent bookseller, with a history that dates back to the California Gold Rush announced today that a lease has been finalized for a new location in Berkeley, CA, due to open in the fall of this year. This will be the 12th location for the locally owned and operated independent bookseller with eight (8) Books Inc. locations in the SF Bay Area, Compass Books & bzinc in San Francisco International Airport and Compass Books & Café at Downtown Disney in Anaheim.
The new Books Inc. Berkeley location joins Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Builder’s Booksource, Café Rouge, Design Within Reach, Spenger’s Fresh Fish Grotto and several other merchants that make up the Fourth Street Shops, a nucleus of a vibrant shopping corridor that began development in the 1980’s and broadened to include a number of independent shops devoted to fashion, food, design and culture. Throughout the development, a philosophy has been maintained of trying to attract retailers that provide unique, interesting and high quality merchandise.
Michael Tucker, who grew-up in Berkeley and is now Co-owner/CEO for Books Inc. credits the “right location, the right lease and the right landlord for allowing expansion in this challenging economic climate.” Books Inc. has recently undergone a restructure of its buying and main offices. “We are committed to have this location bring Fourth Street’s book buying community experienced, knowledgeable booksellers; diverse, interesting events and a book selection that will reflect the neighborhood’s character”, Tucker said.
Tucker and Co-owner /Vice-President, Nikolai Grant hope to have the store open by Mid-October. The store is scheduled to start construction on September 1. Progress will be chronicled on the Books Inc. website, www.booksinc.net and a newly created Facebook page for the Berkeley location.
